Is Wolverine's mask too silly for live action?

The title is meant to be ironic. I do not believe Wolverine mask is too silly for live-action, at all... However, I can agree that in the FOX X-Men universe, which I'm not a big fan of, it would be very jarring as no one else in that universe as anything even close to this one. This would definitely look more at home in the MCU. In fact, you can consider this piece as my take on an MCU style Wolverine costume V.1. I would like to make a full version of the suit in a near future as I'm a huge X-Men fans and although Wolverine is not my favorite X-Man, he does have one of my favorite superhero costumes of all time and one of the most iconic one in the franchise and the absence of it, in the live action films, was one of my biggest let down of the Fox's films canon to me, as a kid.

The picture itself was fairly simple to make. I use the Day of the future past Wolverine picture from Entertainment magazine and add the unused mask that was in the post-credit scene of the "The Wolverine" movie in it and modified it accordingly. I actually saw quite a few people using these exact elements but I never really like the result so I made my own with inspiration from the MCU costume. I wanted the helmet to look both comic accurate but also quite practical with every element serving a purpose. For instance, I made the shape of the "horns" as comic accurate as I could, without making them too big. The "horns", which are probably, to many people, the sillier aspect of his costume could serve a very important function. Since Wolverine first appearance involved fighting The Hulk, in a live-action narrative, maybe they could explain that the "horns" could have been originally designed precisely to protect his brain from gamma radiations and deflect outward the loud shock wave of The Hulk's thunderclap move or something like that. The design was later carried over in his Alpha flight Uniform and finally in his X-Men uniform. Now, he has a healing factor so why would he need that sort of device, you may ask? Well, Nick Fury (or whoever would use his service to kill the Hulk in this hypothetical reboot i'm proposing) either underestimate his healing ability and didn't take any chances or maybe his healing factor gets stronger as the series would progress (similarly to what happened in the comics). Again, all this his hypothetical obviously, but I feel since Spider-man has an explanation for having moving lenses in the MCU, it would be logical for Wolverine to have one as well to explain his very unique costume and its "sillier" aspects, don't you think?

I make some chin strap based on Captain America's helmet and his eyes were essentially influenced by both Netflix's Daredevil helmet and Civil War's Black Panther helmet. I thought that covering his eyes like this would not only make him look a lot more like his comicbook coutherpart but also serve the purpose of protecting both his identity and his eye area from harm. Again, just because Wolverine has a healing factor doesn't mean he likes to get his eyes pierced cause he still suffers and feels the pain. Furthermore, as an ex-soldier/mercenary/assassin, vulnerable parts like his eyes should definitely be protected in order to be as efficient as possible (fighting blind doesn't sound too great, to me). Lastly, because he might not mind the pain (being a bit of a Macho, at time) doesn't mean that Professor X, The S.H.I.E.L.D., Alpha Flight or whoever would give him his first suit in this fantasy canon, would want him to have the shortest end of the stick with a costume not as practical or protective as the other members of their respective teams.

Anyway, yes, although this was a quick job, I did spend a lot of time thinking of how the helmet could work in live-action as well as other aspects of the suit as a whole. Hopefully, you can enjoy this piece for what it is and stay tuned for when I'll release some more conceptarts for it.

Have a nice day, y'all ;)!

Pretty sad when Hugh Jackman came closer to wearing the Wolverine outfit in Flushed Away than in any of the X-Men movies :(
